The African Arts Institute (AFAI) is calling on African arts and culture organisations to attend the 5th World Summit on Arts and Culture in Australia during October 2011.
The AFAI is the Regional Coordinator for the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA) in Africa.
Organisations that want to attend, but need financial assistance, have until the 15th of April 2011 to submit and application for a bursary to IFACCA. Online registration for the Summit is now open.
The 5th World Summit for Arts and Culture is jointly hosted by IFACCA and the Australia Council for the Arts, in partnership with Arts Victoria.
The Summit will bring together government and cultural leaders from over 80 countries. They will explore the theme ‘Creative Intersections’. Methods on how artists can give voice to diverse communities, and much subjects and topics will be discussed. Programme details should be released during April.
The cultural programme for the Summit will be arranged by the Melbourne Festival, with the support of Arts Victoria. A four-day programme of arts events will be organized by Melbourne Festival Artistic Director, Brett Sheehy, from 3 October, culminating in the opening night of the Festival on the evening of 6 October.
The 4th World Summit was held in Johannesburg in 2009. It attracted 450 delegates from 70 countries.
