Local fashion designing team, Malcolm Kluk and Christiaan Gabriel du Toit are soaring to new heights with their fashion label KluK CGDT.
They won the Designer of the Year award for this year at the Arise magazine Lagos Fashion Week in Nigeria and as a result have been invited to take part in this year’s New York fashion week in September.
Kluk said: “We were invited with other African designers from around the world. When we won Designer of the Year 2011, we were invited to show in New York.”
Kluk said that, after UK Daily Telegraph fashion writer Hilary Alexander’s feature article about their label they feel “all eyes” are on them to deliver.
“We want to show what we can do. We want to show what South Africa can do and we want to make Africa proud,” Kluk said.
Local fashion designers have recently being doing well in the international scene. David Tlale’s designs were backed by US soapie actress Jacqueline MacInnes Wood. Gert-Johan Coetzee design was worn by Khloe Kardashian and Kristin Cavallari.
