A federal judge has ordered Limewire to shutdown after is was sued for copyright infringement by The Recording Industry Association of America. LimeWire is a cross-platform peer-to-peer file sharing application developed by Lime Wire LLC and dates back to May 2000.
The judge issued an order on Tuesday which entered a permanent injunction, ordering the service to disable the searching, downloading, uploading or file trading of its software and to block the sharing of unauthorized music files. OUCH.
The lawsuit was started in 2006.
The Lime Group which owns Limewire plans to launch new services soon that adhere to copyright laws.
