What’s happening in Durban & surrounds over the next few days (17th – 21st April)

Let’s get right into it.

Music and dance events:

1 – On the 17th April Traxx Nightclub brings you ‘Fresh’. Ladies enter for free and guys pay R60.

2 – Panama Room in Stamford Hill, Morningside is hosting ‘Back to School’ on the 17th April. There will be a prize for the sexiest girl.

3 – The launch of House Anthems 9 is happening at Cafe Vaccamatta on the 18th April. Entry is free before 6pm.

4 – Rock Brittania is on at The Pumpkin Theatre Club in La Montagne, Ballito until the 1st May. The show celebrates british popular music, including the music on The Beatles, Sandy Shaw, Amy Winehouse and Elton John. The Pumpkin Theatre Club is open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Dinner is served at 18h30 and the show starts at 20h00. Tickets cost R230 and can be booked at computicket.

5 – The Reform Clud in Florida Road is having a salsa party on the 16th & 17th of April. The event is organised by Durban Salsa and tickets cost R50.

6 – Johnny Clegg will be coming to PMB’s Woodburn Stadium on the 17th April for his ‘Bigger and Better’ show. Wonderboom is the supporting act.

7 – Rock Circus is showing at The Barnyard Theatre from the 20th of April to the 30th May. Featuring an extended stage and intricate set, the show has a ring master who introduces a live band, six decades of rock music, aerial acrobatics, and an array of circus performers. Tickets cost R120.

8 – Westville Boys High School brings you High School Musical 2: On stage, from the 20th April till the 1st of May. Westville Boys High School was the first group in Africa to stage the first musical and are proud to bring the second instalment. Tickets range from R20 – R50.

Cultural events:

1 – Moyo at Ushaka is celebrating Ghana this month. Ghana is on the West coast of Africa and is characterised by beautiful natural land, colourful festivals and vibrant music and dance. There is over 90 ethnic groups in the country.

Art events:

1 – Young Artists Unite has been showng at artSPACE (3 Millar Road, Stamford Hill) since the 30th March. It ends on the 17th April. It is an exhibition of up and coming youngsters who’ve graduated from the DUT in either Fine Arts or Graphic Design. The artworks include photographs, collage, ceramics illustration.

2 – The KZNSA gallery in Bulwer Road, Glenwood will be hosting ‘Twelve’ from the 20th April 10 to the 2nd May.

The exhibition encapsulates the grouping of twelve stylistically diverse artists who have risen to the challenge of the Professional Practice Course offered by the KZNSA.

The artists include painters Wendy Bowman, Bronwyn Chelius, Michelle Chelius, Anne Cleveland, Jane Digby, Maureen Edgcumbe, Hilary Grant-Currie, Ana Pereira de Vlieg, Carey Simpson, Janet Solomon, Jill Sysum and fashion designer Joel Janse van Vuuren.

3 – The Dingalings production company bring you the story of Senzo Mthethwa, a young zulu boy who grows up in an Indian home with the Chetty family. The show will take place at The Catalina Theatre until the 2nd of May. Tickets range from R40 – R65.

Lifestyle events:

1 – Need something to do on Saturday morning? Go check out the Essenwood market in Essenwood road near the Musgrave centre. It’s an awesome market. You can have breakfast before you walk around the stalls.
