What's on in Durban

There’s a lot happening in Durban this weekend. I’ll get straight into it.

Lifestyle Events

1 – Vacca Matta at Suncoast Casino is hosting the 75 Fashion Couture Style Extravaganza on the 19th March. It is a fashion show of international standards. Garments will be on sale at the venue. It starts at 8pm. Phone 031 3686535 for more details.


2 – The Baba Indaba starts tomorrow (19th March) at the Durban Exhibition Cenre and carries on until the 22nd March. You’ll be able to check out products for baby and moms-to-be. You’ll find everything from prams to vitamin supplements to pool safety products. The Takalani Sesame characters will be on stage 3 times a day. There’ll be fashion shows as well.

3 – Decorex Durban 2010 is being held at the Durban ICC from the 19th March to the 22nd March. If decorating and design are your thing, then this is where you need to be this weekend.

4 – The Bangladesh market is held every Saturday and Sunday in Chatsworth. Check out their website for more details.

Music and dance Events


elton john

1 – Elton John will be in Durban on the 24th March for his “Under African Skies” solo tour. The show will be held at the Moses Mabhida Outer Fields. Tickets can be bought at computicket.

2 – Half Price are launching their new album in Durban at The Winston in Umbilo on the 20th March. Phone 0769761002 or email for more details.

3 – Mango Groove will be giving a concert at the Durban Botanic Gardens on the 11th April. Tickets range from R80 – R100 per person. Phone 031 309 1170 for more details.

4 – The Barnyard Theatre at Gateway is hosting Rock Circus. It starts on the 20th April. Included will be 6 decades of music, acrobatics and circus performers. Tickets are R120 per person. Phone 031 566 3045 for more details.

5 – On the 21st of March (Human Rights Day) of March Eagle Records is holding a music festival at the show ground in Tara Road, Bluff. The funds will go towards Help Our Children. Tickets are R50 for adults and R20 for students. Phone 031 461 4630 for more details.

6 – The Panama Room in Morningside is hosting ‘Bhangra’ on the 21st of March. Lotus FM DJ Rakesh and DJ Dali will be attending. Phone 031 312 5630 for more details.

7 – Cliffy’s in PMB is hosting a Mad Hatters tea party on the 21st of March. You have to wear a funky hat to the show. There will be live bands playing. Email for more details.

Arts and Culture events

1 – The annual theatre minifest starts on the 19th March at the Hexagon Theatre in PMB. The line-up is made up of 5 theatre pieces including a poetry show. Phone 033 260 5537 for more details.

2 – The Courtyard Theatre in hosting ‘Frontlines’ from the 20th of March to the 25th of March. The show is a collection of thoughts, images, testimonies, letters and responses to global conflict in the 20th century. This might be something informative to attend for students studying global communications trends. Phone 031 373 2194 for more details.

  1. Very Excited that Mango groove will be performing. Always loved their music, but never got to see them live, was too young when they were big. Soooooo Excited!
