Today is World Aids Day. It is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection.
The origin of AIDS and HIV has puzzled scientists ever since the illness first came to light in the early 1980’s. It is now known that the origin of AIDS and the HIV virus was probably in Africa.
The first cases were identified in 1981 in the United States.
There is no cure for AIDS. There are, however, various drugs that can be taken to slow down its progress.
There is a negative stigma surrounding AIDS. Even in our modern day, and with the knowledge that we currently have about AIDS, people who have the virus are still shunned by their communities.
World Aids Day works towards clearing these negative images so that every person on earth can workd towards slowing down the spread of this pandemic.
